SESA Puerto Rico
President
Background on PJ

PJ Wilson is the Founder and President of the Solar + Energy Storage Association of Puerto Rico (SESA). Raised by schoolteachers on a farm in Missouri, PJ has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California, and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Honduras).

Through the five nonprofit advocacy groups he founded in his home state of Missouri, PJ led the creation and implementation of fundamental policies which developed the industries of solar, wind and energy efficiency. Having retired from those nonprofits in summer 2017, PJ was available and responded to the blackout caused by Hurricanes Irma & Maria by bringing and distributing small solar kits to Puerto Rico. The 501c3 nonprofit he founded, Solar for Puerto Rico, distributed over 1,000 of these its during the blackout. PJ also created the 501c6 nonprofit Solar + Energy Storage Association, which represents the solar + storage industry in legislative and regulatory advocacy.

Background on SESA

Founded in February 2018 in response to the blackout caused by Hurricane Maria, SESA has 18 member companies representing the majority of the solar and battery storage market on the island. SESA's focus is on growing the solar + storage industry through clean energy policy creation and implementation, direct dialogue with PREPA, and coalition building to address challenges along the way.

SESA successfully advocated for including many mechanisms in PS1121 which will help Puerto Rico reach the ambitious requirement of 40% renewable energy by 2025, 60% by 2040 and 100% by 2050. Its goals going forward are to ensure effective implementation of PS1121, program design of federal incentive funds, and attracting new financing mechanisms to support solar + storage project development.
